About Dr. Nicholson
A native of Spartanburg, Dr. Katherine Nicholson graduated from Wofford
College in 1992 (Go Terriers!) and received her Doctor of Dental Medicine
degree from the Medical
University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine in 1996. Dr. Nicholson completed a Hospital Dental Residency
at the University of Maryland Medical System in 1997 and then returned
home to Spartanburg to start her own dental practice, Carolina Aesthetic
Dentistry.
Dr. Nicholson has attended numerous courses from the internationally
renowned Las Vegas
Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). LVI is
one of the premiere centers for the study of aesthetic and neuromuscular
dentistry. As an attendee of LVI, Dr. Nicholson is one of a small
percentage of dentists worldwide who has received this level of training.
Dr. Nicholson’s professional affiliations are further evidence
of her passionate commitment to providing her patients with the highest

When Dr. Nicholson isn’t serenading her patients by singing along
with the radio (remember, we said we like a good laugh now and then…),
she enjoys indulging in the pleasures of photography, traveling, James Bond movies, wine, and chocolate (yes, dentists eat
chocolate). One
of Dr. Nicholson’s main confidants is a ferocious killer beast
of a Boykin spaniel named Jackson, who spends his days protecting “the
castle” from “dragons.”
Jennifer Russell, Office Manager
A native of Spartanburg, Jennifer received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics from Wofford College, where she was a cheerleader and a Bonner Scholar. When she is not in the office, Jennifer enjoys playing with Rylee, her Yorkshire Terrier, watching The Game Show Network, and reading romance novels. She also enjoys doing volunteer work. She currently tutors and is a mentor with the Citizen Scholar Program, a program sponsored by the Spartanburg County Foundation.
Wing Kei Tang, Public Relations Officer
“Winky” was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Spartanburg. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in IDS Graphic Design from USC Upstate. During her college years, she was involved in many organizations, including being President of the International Club. From her freelance Graphic Design experiences, she has designed innovative advertising and promotional materials for local pageants and phone book ads. In 2004, Winky competed in the Miss Chinatown Atlanta pageant and was awarded Miss Congeniality. She loves to spend time with her friends and family, especially her daughter. Winky loves to read about art, crafts, design, health, and feng shui related materials. She has even started to teach Dr. Nicholson a few words in Chinese!
Megan Barnette, Dental Hygienist
A native of Inman, Megan received her Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene degree from Greenville Technical College. In 2008, she completed her Bachelor of Health Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina. Megan enjoys conversing with patients and getting to know them. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and planning her upcoming wedding to the love in her life.
Megan loves romantic comedies and music, especially Michael Bublé. She likes to sing in the office…even when she thinks no one is listening!
Hala Akkary, Lead Dental Assistant
Born in Syria, raised in the U.S., Hala adds an international flair to our office. She is patiently (oh so patiently) trying to teach Dr. Nicholson the Arabic language. In turn, Doc is trying to get Hala to sing chairside with her. Sadly, Hala will only hum...usually to songs that exist only in her head. Interior decorating, traveling, and shopping are her hobbies. She has a fondness for ladybugs and donkeys. Believe it or not, there is a donkey song that Hala can hum for you!
